For Artists

NCN: The National Caricaturists Network
Join the club. It’ll do your heart good. Also you get Exaggerated Features magazine every month, which beats the Hammacher Schlemmer Catalogue. Sorry, Hammacher Schlemmer. Don’t worry, though, the World’s Best Hot Dog Toaster is still pretty cool.

Face Off: How to Draw Amazing Caricatures & Comic Portraits
My erstwhile coworker at Sea World, Harry Hamernik, has a great eye and a great drawing hand for caricature, and he’s written an excellent book for a strong quick-sketch style. A lot of his good advice applies to drawing in general, too.

DIY Lap Easel
There’s nothing quite as nice as a lap easel for drawing at a party or as a space saving drafting table for your NYC studio apartment with the bathtub in the kitchen. You may want to go more upscale than this one at some point, but in the meantime, Ramon Sosongco has posted simple instructions for a very low cost easel you can assemble yourself.

Watts Atelier
I didn’t go to Watts, but I’ve seen the results it’s gotten a number of friends. This place will sharpen your skills to a razor’s edge.

Kaman's Art Shoppes
I spent four summers working for this outfit at Sea World of San Diego, and they're a great company to work for. Amusement Park Caricature is a great experience, and your coworkers will be a terrific bunch.
